Sustainable Journey
In 2022, we set out to do more than just drop stylish shades—we wanted to make better choices for the planet too. That’s why we switched to using 100% post-consumer waste for our plastic frames, all certified by the Global Recycling Standard.
But what does that actually mean? Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how recycled materials go from post-consumer waste to ROC sunnies.
Small changes add up, and we’re proud to be part of the shift toward more responsible eyewear.
Collecting
Sourcing post-consumer plastics like bottles, headlights and dental packaging etc...
Sorting
Using UV light to sort plastics, identifying and isolating the pure materials that can be recycled.
Breaking down
Crushing it down into tiny pieces.
Cleaning
Washing the crushed plastics to remove impurities.
Melting
Melting & extruding the crushed plastics to give it new life.
Transforming
The melted plastics form into pellets.
Repurposing
Glow-up complete! These pellets get molded into your next pair of ROC sunnies.

All of our recycled sunnies are certified by the Global Recycling Standard.
The Global Recycling Standard (GRS) is an international certification makes sure that recycled content is genuinely recycled, responsibly sourced, and tracked every step of the way to avoid any shady greenwashing. For a product to be GRS-certified, it has to:
1.
Rock at least 50% recycled content (though we’re taking it up a notch with 100% post-consumer waste in our plastic frames).
2.
Ensure full traceability, verifying that every link in the chain is authentic, transparent, and meets our high standards.
3.
Stick to strict eco and social guidelines—think responsible chemical use and ethical labor practices.
We’re not at 100% just yet, but every step we take brings us closer to a greener future—and we’re committed to making it happen.
