Finding your perfect pair of sunglasses starts with knowing your face shape. This guide shows you how to work out your face shape in under a minute. Which sunglasses suit oval, round, square and heart faces and how to get the size right.

Here's the only rule you need: go for contrast. Soft, curvy face? Pick sharp angles. Strong, angular jaw? Soften it with curves. Balanced proportions? You get to break the rules.

First, find your shape

  • Oval: widest at the cheekbones, gently rounded jaw, a little longer than it is wide.
  • Round: width and length about equal, soft jaw, full cheeks.
  • Square: forehead, cheeks and jaw all a similar width, with sharp jaw corners.
  • Heart: widest at the forehead, narrowing down to a pointed chin.

Oval: the main character

Balanced proportions mean you can wear basically anything. So don't play it safe. Go for a frame that's as wide as or a touch wider than the broadest part of your face and let it make a statement.

Round: add some edge

Soft cheeks and a curved jaw love a frame with corners. Angular, rectangular shapes add definition and make your face look longer.

  • BOMB - BROWN: bold square lines, instant cheekbones.
  • RAD - GREY: clean rectangle, cool-toned, works with every fit.

Square: soften the angles

A strong jaw is already doing a lot. Round and oval frames balance it out and keep the look effortless rather than severe.

Heart: balance the top

A wider forehead and a narrow chin need a frame that's a touch wider at the bottom, or light across the top. Aviators are made for you.

Plot twist: these are guidelines, not rules. If a frame makes you feel like that person, it suits you.

What it is

The vibe check

Lens width

How wide each lens is, edge to edge, in mm

Frames pinch your temples? Size up. Sliding past your cheeks? Size down.

Bridge

The gap between the lenses that sits on your nose

Frames slipping down your nose? Go narrower. Leaving marks? Go wider.

Temple length

The arm, from hinge to the tip behind your ear

Should hug behind your ear without pressing. Too short, they pop off. Too long, they slide.
